Event Write Ups

The Wilton Knights of Columbus held a “Keep Christ In Christmas” Poster Competition for our children in the Parish this Christmas Season. Peter Rubsam led the initiative and worked with the Parish, CCD Parents and Alison Lombardi to distribute the initiative to all the Kids. We had 2 great winners who each received a $25 gift voucher for their great efforts. Congrats to all involved!

A fantastic night was had on Saturday evening, December 7th, when Fr. Reggie kicked off the “Our Lady of Fatima” Christmas Tree Lighting Cermony in front of a large crowd of people just after the 4:30pm mass. The Columbiettes hosted a fantastic Pasta Dinner afterwards for everyone, with Patty and Suzette leading the charge, and Lyz photographing the event like it was Oscar night!. Everyone had a great time – it felt like Christmas Day came early! Thanks to all the Columbiettes who put on a fantastic feast and to the Knights who helped setup.

Our Christmas Season was kicked off on Saturday morning November 30th 2024 with the traditional assembly of the Creche in the town Center. A group of about 15 volunteers got together to carry the Creche from the Church garage to the Wilton Town Center where it was assembled by the team of eager experts in training!. The Baby Jesus will be placed in the Crib on Christmas Eve night.

On Saturday, October 26th 2024, more than 900 brand new coats and hand-knit winter hats were distributed to clients of Family & Children’s Agency (FCA) by the greater Norwalk area Knights of Columbus Councils as part of the Order’s Coats for Kids Initiative. Sizes from toddler and children’s to men’s and women’s were organised and distributed. Since the initiative launched in 2009, more than 1 million coats have been distributed in 49 states and all 10 Canadian provinces to keep kids warm through the winter.

Knights of Columbus Councils from Norwalk, Wilton, New Caanan, Westport and Bishop Fenwick Assembly 100 4th Degree worked together to purchase the brand-new coats with St. Matthew Parishioners Karen Delvecchio and Terri Sargant donating handmade winter hats and scarves for the 6th year in a row.

Please review the official press release included as a picture below. Special thanks to Louis Furlo, Barry Gunderson, Bob Lenihan, Dave Flynn and Mike Healy for their help during the weekend. None of this would have been possible with the huge donations from “Our Lady of Fatima” parishioners, all the Knights who helped with the collections and Fr. Reggie Norman for his support (and Nancy O’Connell in the office).

To see the look of relief and joy on the children’s faces was worth more than any lottery win anywhere in the world!

On Friday evening, October 4th 2024, the Columbiettes partnering with the Knights hosted their annual Oktoberfest party. The event was held in the School Gym which was a last minute decision and a great one given that the crowd was over 100 people. There was a mix of adults and children, both of which craved the popcorn that was available. The quality of the Bratwurst was out of this world with head chef Suzette Grimmer refusing to give away her secrets, although we did see a lot of beer involved in the recipe! In addition, there were plenty of sides available including the German Potato Salad Spaetzel, and the food was distributed masterfully by Patty Terranova and her well abled team of Columbiettes. For those who had room afterwards, there were many pies available for dessert. Thanks to everyone who participated and turned up to the event, and to the Columbiettes who organised and ran the event itself with huge success, and to the Knights who helped with set up and cleanup. The pictures below tell the tale of a fantastic night!

Fr. Jim was also installed as Chaplain and Lecturer. Some Officers were not able to attend and were awarded in absentia, including Bob Lenihan as Chancellor and Membership, Rob McCullough as Warden, Scott Douglass as Inside and Outside Guard, Paul Niche as 1 Year Trustee, Peter Slavin as 2 Year Trustee, and Bill McMorris as Advocate.

May 19th 2024 Eucharistic Procession To Wilton Town Center
A large contingent of parishioners from Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton and neighbouring parishes took part in a Eucharistic Procession on Sunday, May 19 (Pentecost Sunday). Led by Father Reggie Norman, the parish members started from Fatima Church after the 11 a.m. mass and walked to the Gazebo on the Town Green in Wilton Center for a ceremony. Father Reggie and Fr Jim shared the carrying of a gold monstrance, the vessel that contains the consecrated Eucharist (the sacramental bread), exposing it for veneration. They walked under a four-pointed canopy held by members of the Knights of Columbus and hymns were sung by the worshipers along the route. According to Father Reggie, the procession publicly proclaimed belief in Jesus’ true presence in the Eucharist. We experienced what the disciples did 2,000 years ago as they walked with Jesus.
After the procession was completed, most people returned to Fatima Church where hamburgers and hotdogs were provided by the Knights of Columbus. A great time was had by all who were there and we would like to thank everyone, the Knights, Columbiettes, and the parishioners for an amazing experience!

Easter Saturday 2024 – Hundreds of Eggs! And a whole lot of fun!
A huge crowd turned out for Our Lady of Fatima’s Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Saturday 2024. The anticipation on the kids faces as they dove into the donuts while waiting for the Egg Hunt to begin was a delightful sight, and the weather cooperated as well.
The morning started early with the Knights, the Columbiettes and a bunch of teenage volunteers eagerly setting about multiple tasks including the setup for the Coffee and Donuts, the Church Cleaning and Decorating, the setup outside for tricks and treats, the blessing of the baskets before 10am and, of course, the hiding of the eggs which provided as much fun for the older kids as it was for the younger kids to find them. Everyone that was involved worked together like a well oiled machine and everything was ready before you knew it.
The Egg Hunt itself kicked off at exactly 10:30am with a countdown that would rival the Daytona 500. The eggs were split out into 3 different sections for different age groups. The youngest kids were in the circle of grass at the front of the church and they scurried around quickly as they gathered their share of eggs, with some of the older kids helping out the younger. Within minutes, the eggs were gone. While all of this was happening, we had the privilege of having the Easter Bunny turn up – he mingled among the crowd and was more than pleased to have his picture taken – he even appeared in a Tic Toc video towards the end!
Overall, it was a fantastic morning – much thanks goes to our Volunteers for the energy they provided in the setup and, of course, to the kids who made the event special. Its events like these that make you realise you are lucky to be part of a community like this!

2024 Fish Fry Friday – A Fantastic Evening had by all
Given that the first “Fish Fry Friday” was thrown in 2023, it was a very pleasant surprise to see the huge turnout for this years event. We had every age group represented and the food was second to none – needless to say, there was nothing left at the end of the night. Everyone had a great time and the laughs just kept on coming.
We would like to thank the Columbiettes who organised this event. Their dedication and hard work made this event the success it was. Thanks also goes to the Knights who volunteered and attended.
And, of course, our Guests. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for attending the “Fish Fry Friday” event. Your presence and engagement helped to make it a huge success! We look forward to seeing you all again at next years event.
