Eugene P. Ferguson – January 23rd, 1945 to January 6th, 2025: Gene Ferguson of Danbury, Wilton, and Detroit Lakes Minnesota passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family: his wife, Ann, and his two children, Colin and Brit. Gene was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Eugene and Ann Ferguson. He spent much of his childhood in Douglaston, NY, alongside his sister, Maureen, and attended St. Mary’s High School. He went on to Manhattan College, where he developed a lifelong love for sports and enjoyed the vibrant life of the Bronx. Following graduation, Gene began a successful career at IBM. It was there that he met the love of his life, fellow “IBM-er” Annie, while she was visiting from the Minneapolis office. It was love at first sight under a New York City disco ball, leading Gene to famously profess his love on a billboard in Times Square. They were married in Bismarck, ND, in 1981. For the next 45 years, they never stopped dancing in the kitchen. Gene’s professional journey took him to Wall Street, where he held positions at Salomon Brothers, Forstmann-Leff, and AIG. Eventually, he traded the New York City commute for a role closer to home at Commonfund in Wilton. Despite his professional success, work was only a small part of Gene’s life. His greatest joy was his children, Colin and Brit. Whether playing basketball in the driveway, coaching their teams, racing home from the city to share dinner and help with homework, or rooting for them from the sidelines, Gene was the ultimate father. When he wasn’t in Connecticut or New York, Gene was at his favorite place in the world: the family summer home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. There, he was most often found on the shores of Lake Sallie, lost in a good book, chatting with family, and enjoying a cold beer or a fine glass of Cabernet while watching the sun set. It was truly his and Annie’s home away from home. Gene was also deeply committed to service. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the board of Manhattan College’s O’Malley School of Business, and volunteered at the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen in Danbury. He also served as the “at-home coach and referee” for the New York Giants—a role he took very seriously, as no game was complete without Gene calling the shots. Gene will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann; his son, Colin Ferguson, and his wife Kaitlin O’Connell and their son Oscar (New York, NY); and his daughter, Brit Ferguson, and her husband Eric Boskey (Jersey City, NJ). He is also survived by his beloved sister, Maureen Ferguson, as well as many cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Knute John Karlson – December 17th, 1947 – December 26th 2025: With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Knute John Karlson, known as John, beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the age of 78, after an 11-year courageous battle against leukemia. John was born in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Gertrude Karlson. He graduated from Sullivan High School and went on to study graphic arts at Loyola University. John’s career spanned many decades in the printing industry, first as a salesman for Brookshore Printing in Chicago. In 1974, he moved to Connecticut with his family and sold printing services for The Segerdahl Corporation, Sayers Communications, Lehigh Press, and Bradley Printing. He had a reputation for personalized customer service and creativity. Later in life, he earned his real estate license and concluded his career as a real estate agent for William Pitt Sotheby’s and William Raveis, working alongside his business partner and closest friend, Barbara Jasinski. After a distinguished career in the printing industry and real estate, John found joy in retirement in southern Delaware, surrounded by family and friends. John’s greatest joy was his family — he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Salentiny, and they remained inseparable for the next 59 years. Their marriage was filled with joy, laughter, and love — and John made a point every day to tell Joanne that she was beautiful and that he loved her dearly. He was a proud and loving father to Eric (Amy), Mark (Dominique), and the late Michael John; a beloved and generous Papa to his four beautiful grandchildren, Katie, Layla, Noah, and Cooper; and a devoted brother to his older sister, Jean Miller, and his late younger brother, Jim (Kathy). He is also survived by other relatives and many friends. John was known for his energetic personality, generosity, sense of humor, patriotism, and passion for all things baseball, especially the Yankees. He enjoyed fine wine, well-aged scotch, Hershey bars, and debating politics. He is also survived by his 43-year-old female parrot named Pete, whom he spoiled since she was a fledgling. John was active in Scouting for most of his life, mentoring hundreds of young men. While he began as a Cub Scout leader in Pack 17 in Norwalk, Connecticut, John finished his career with the Scouts as a District Commissioner. He graduated from Wood Badge training, earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. As part of his adventures, he hiked most of the Appalachian Trail, climbed Mount Washington, and canoed through the Allagash. Above all, John was proudest of sponsoring the 58 Scouts who completed the highest award in Scouting — Eagle Scout. John’s legacy lives on in the hundreds of Scouts he mentored and the values he instilled in all who knew him. He was awarded the Red Cross “Real Heroes” Award for service to the community. John was a faithful Christian, a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Milton, Delaware, and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus — the highest level for members, centered around patriotism and charity..
